British Seaside Resorts a Popular Choice this Year

A survey revealed that more Brits enjoyed a staycation by the coast this year. Around 58% of the people surveyed hit the British seaside over the coming months, either for a mini break or their main holiday.

The survey also revealed that spending was up compared with last year, with British holidaymakers splashing more cash this year on their UK seaside jaunt. On average, seaside staycationers spent just over £500 on their holiday last year. This year, domestic spend is expected to have risen to £729, representing a 46% increase and boosting the British economy by nearly £20bn.

When it comes to which UK coastal locations dominate, it is not hard to understand why Cornwall has enjoyed the top spot for the second year running. With some of the best beaches in the UK and a warm climate, it makes the ideal staycation destination. Other popular coastal locations include Devon, Blackpool, Brighton and Scarborough.

Brexit and Terrorism Boost UK 3-in-1 Holidays

It is not difficult to appreciate why UK coastal resorts attract home-grown tourists; with the uncertainty over Brexit and terrorism threats in other foreign holiday locations hitting the news, the appeal of seaside  holidays at home has never been more tempting. A new trend that also seems to be emerging is for Brits to take a three-in-one style of holiday over a week, incorporating visits to the beach, city and rural attractions. With so much versatility in this country, this combined style of holiday is easy to implement.

If you are used to holidaying in the Mediterranean, a trip to a UK beach may prove a different experience. The UK generally has more noticeable tide movements than the Med, so make sure that you check out the tide times before enjoying a trip to the great British seaside this year.
